In May 2006, we granted $465,000 to ARK to support the clinic and medical staff that run an AIDS anti-viral treatment programme in South Africa.
ARK prevents children from being prematurely orphaned, in South Africa, by providing life-saving antiretroviral treatment to mothers and other caregivers suffering from HIV/AIDS.
In just over three years, ARK has enrolled over 10,400 caregivers onto treatment in 40 clinics in Western Cape, KwaZulu Natal, Mpumalanga and Eastern Cape provinces. ARK’s next ambitious target is to make sure that 22,000 caregivers are enrolled on treatment within three years.
ARK South Africa’s treatment programme was launched in December 2003 in the Western Cape Province. The total number of clinics now operational is 59.
