In 2006, we granted $870,000 to CARA, which has been helping refugee scholars in the UK since 1933.
CARA's primary objective is to support refugee academics in their effort to rebuild shattered academic and/or professional careers within the UK, and ensure that their specialist knowledge and abilities continue to benefit mankind.
It considers applications from refugees who were academics in their home countries. Applicants vary but tend to arrive from Africa and the Middle East.
Over the past five decades, CARA and its predecessors have assisted more than 9,000 refugee university lecturers and researchers rebuild shattered lives and careers. They have become active contributors to British society, ensuring that their specialist knowledge and abilities continue to benefit humankind.
