The Club of Three is a project of the Trialogue Educational Trust, which exists to promote 'the advancement of the education of the public in the UK’.
The Club of Three was set up in 1990 at the initiative of Lord Weidenfeld. On the premise that the level of policy debate in Europe would benefit from more regular consultation between Europe’s three leading nations (Germany, France and Britain). The debate included politicians, business people, academics, journalists, and representatives of the professions and civil society.
The Club’s work on European Union Enlargement paved the way for the launch of a longer term initiative focused on the Frontiers of Europe. The Frontiers of Europe initiative looks at issues facing Europe’s borderlands, from North Africa in the South, through to Europe’s ‘eastern dimension’, Caucasus and Central Asia. In 2005 a series of specialised conferences were launched to discuss Europe’s borderlands.
In 2006, we granted $100,000 to the Trialogue Educational Trust to contribute to the costs of the Caucasus Conference.
