In 2008, the Arcadia Fund awarded a $500,000 endowment grant to be paid over a period of five years to support the UCLA Library’s Center for Primary Research and Training.
Launched in 2004, The Center for Primary Research and Training connects UCLA graduate students with unprocessed or under-processed collections in their areas of interest, and trains them in archival methods. Engaging more than ten academic departments in over 100 projects, the centre serves a dual function of promoting scholarship within the University while making archival materials available to the scholarly community and the public at large.
Our grant to the UCLA Library project will provide ongoing support for the intellectual and financial needs of graduate students in the programme. The grant will furthermore enable the centre to process, translate and catalogue material for its permanent archive, one of the world’s premier special collections.
